Boosting Local Agriculture with Best of Class CBD Processing

NewBridge Provides Additional Insight on how State of NM LEDA funds will generate $115 million over Ten Years

MORIARTY, N.M. – The New Mexico State Economic Development Department (EDD) and NewBridge Global Ventures (NewBridge) announced  Monday, January 13, the Ag Tech company is planning a major expansion in Moriarity to grow and integrate its farming, processing, manufacturing and distribution businesses centered around industrial-scale hemp and CBD.

San Francisco-based NewBridge utilizes a patented technology to process fresh biomass and extract valuable components from cannabis plants directly on King Farms, a plot of over 5,000 acres of irrigated farmland in Moriarty, eliminating the need for costly and time-intensive drying and curing. The breakthrough approach has been refined over the last five years, making NewBridge the only company in the industry offering CBD made from fresh plants. NewBridge directly brings the health and wellness benefits of their high-quality CBD ingredient to consumers with a beverage and lotion sold through online and retail stores under the embodygreen CBD brand.

The State of New Mexico  pledged $750,000 from EDD’s job-creation LEDA fund to assist NewBridge with its expansion as it completes a processing plant on the farm. The business would also qualify for other job training and hiring incentives as it creates jobs and meets hiring benchmarks.

The State’s investment in Moriarity will boost the ag economy, leverage private dollars and support innovative farming technology in the Estancia Valley bringing better jobs across New Mexico, aligning with Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s economic development initiatives to better help rural communities and to recruit higher-paying manufacturing jobs in New Mexico.

NewBridge also plans to build a canning facility in the region and relocate canning jobs from Washington State, creating at least 34 jobs over the next several years.  NewBridge plans to invest an additional $5.3 million into the New Mexico project which would bring the total investment to over $20 million and have an estimated economic impact of $115 million over 10 years.

The NewBridge farming partnership with Sam King Jr., the son of Sam King (nephew of former three-term NM Gov. Bruce King), who started farming some 3,500 acres in the 1930s, began about five years ago.  At 67, he has been farming his whole life, and he welcomes the new business venture as a way to diversify his crops and bring more jobs to the area. Sam King Jr. is a member of the NewBridge Board of Directors.

“We’ve been working on this for five years and now we are excited that we will be able to do all the extraction, processing, and even canning here on the farm and in Moriarity,” King said. “That’s why I’m doing this, it will bring more jobs, it will help the community and the young people who want to stay here and not drive to Albuquerque or Santa Fe to work.”

NewBridge CEO Lance Dalton highlighted the company’s patented technology is a first for the industry, using water and shockwaves rather than chemical solvents to produce all-natural CBD. The process is more environmentally friendly, and it allows the company to produce higher-grade CBD oil with greater efficiency than typical methods.

“We can pull the plant off the field and squeeze it within 45 minutes of harvest, producing 60 gallons of oil per minute. That process used to take weeks, not even counting the drying and curing of the plant. We were able to bring this to New Mexico because we have the perfect farming partner with the King Family and strong support from the local community and the state,” Dalton said.

NewBridge has three greenhouse buildings on King Ranch to grow plant starts and is erecting an adjacent building to perform extraction using its solvent-free methods. This facility will have the capacity to process 360 pounds of biomass per hour while retaining the freshness and full-spectrum benefits of the plant.

The City of Moriarity has agreed and is approved to be the fiscal agent for the State LEDA assistance and will monitor compliance. The city is planning to work with NewBridge on its future needs for additional manufacturing and warehouse space as those plans reach finalization.
