Community-Wide Worship and Prayer Gathering to Mark National Day of Prayer

Albuquerque's Faith Community to Gather for Family-Friendly National Day of Prayer Celebration.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Believers from around New Mexico will gather on Thursday, May 1, at Civic Plaza in Downtown Albuquerque for a powerful National Day of Prayer celebration. This multi-church, family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

The event will include vibrant worship led by Aodhán King of Hillsong, community prayer, and a message of encouragement from Nathan Finochio, before Christians from around the community unite to lift up local and national political leaders, local community, and young people in prayer. A citywide youth afterparty will follow.

Family fun kicks off at 4 pm with food trucks, live music, and bounce houses. At 6 pm, the main prayer service begins, featuring worship led by Aodhán King of Hillsong and a message from Nathan Finochio, founder of TheosU and a globally recognized leader in Christian teaching and ministry.

Executive Pastor Nate Heitzig shared, “We’re excited to see God moving in our state and our country. It’s an honor to unite in prayer as we seek God’s blessings for our leaders and our communities. Only the gospel has the power to bring true life change—we long to see spiritual transformation across New Mexico.”

Students are invited to stay for the U-Nite afterparty at 7:15 pm, where they’ll experience live worship with Aodhán King, sports and hangout zones, a gospel message, and baptisms at Civic Plaza. This special youth-focused portion of the event was designed by students, for students.

Calvary Church youth pastor Kaiden Ritchie said, “Our young people don’t have to wait until they’re older to see God move in their lives. He wants to meet them where they are right now.”

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. Established by Congress in 1952 and signed into law by President Truman, it has grown into a nationwide movement of public prayer and community gatherings.
