Renovations underway at Valencia County Fairgrounds

VALENCIA COUNTY, NM — A major revitalization of the Valencia County Fairgrounds is ongoing to better serve local youth, agricultural programs and the broader community, while positioning the facility to host new events in the future.

“These improvements will ensure the fairgrounds remain a place where Valencia County youth can learn, compete and build lifelong skills,” said Valencia County Manager Jhonathan Aragon. “We will keep the Valencia County Fair where it belongs while also bringing new events and opportunities to the county.”

The renovation project, includes planning a series of improvements to the Valencia County Fairgrounds to enhance the safety, functionality, and long-term use of the facility. Proposed improvements may include interior and exterior renovations; painting; installation of insulation, wall panels, flooring, and finishes; repairs and upgrades to electrical, lighting, HVAC, plumbing, communications, and sound systems; and the installation of permanent signage, flagpoles, shade structures, fencing, gates, storage facilities, accessibility improvements, fire protection equipment, and other building and site enhancements.

In conjunction with these improvements, Valencia County is soliciting architectural services to prepare a comprehensive master plan and design for the full renovation of the fairgrounds. The master plan will guide future capital improvements and ensure that all renovations are coordinated to support the County’s long-term vision for the facility.

The upgrades are expected to strengthen the fairgrounds’ role as a hub for 4-H and Future Farmers of America programs, livestock exhibitions, rodeos, community events and regional gatherings.

Residents and visitors will have an opportunity to see the improvements firsthand during the 2026 Valencia County Fair, set for Aug. 22–29, at the Valencia County Fairgrounds, located at 14 I-25 Bypass in Belen, New Mexico.

In March 2026, the Valencia County Fair Management Company, Inc. donated the fairgrounds to Valencia County. To date, the New Mexico Legislature has granted $2.1 million in capital outlay appropriations to Valencia County for improvements and the development of new projects at the fairgrounds.

“By investing in the fairgrounds today, we’re strengthening opportunities for our youth, supporting community events and preserving an important asset for Valencia County,” Aragon said.
