Valencia County unleashes New Mexico’s first-ever armored tactical ambulance

A high-water rescue vehicle will also enhance public safety

VALENCIA COUNTY, NM —Valencia County is proudly strengthening its emergency response capabilities with the addition of two specialized, life-saving vehicles. This innovative upgrade features New Mexico’s first armored tactical ambulance and a high-water flood rescue vehicle.

“These specialized response vehicles represent a major investment in public safety for Valencia County and New Mexico,” said Valencia County Manager Jhonathan Aragon. “Whether responding to active threats or severe flooding, these vehicles give our first responders the tools they need to protect lives safely.”

Operated by Valencia County’s Tactical Emergency Medical Support team to assist regional SWAT operations, the armored tactical ambulance allows first responders to safely enter hostile environments, retrieve patients and provide immediate medical care as the only vehicle of its kind in New Mexico. The vehicle features a joystick-controlled roof water turret that helps crews safely suppress fires during active standoffs without exposing personnel to gunfire.

When severe weather strikes, Valencia County’s new high-water flood rescue vehicle enhances rescue capabilities in dangerous conditions. Manned by a team of certified swift-water rescue technicians, this vehicle is specifically engineered to forge through deep, treacherous floodwaters to rescue endangered individuals.

The vehicles were funded through legislative support and collaboration with state and congressional leaders. While stationed in Valencia County, they serve as vital, life-saving resources ready to answer emergency requests.

“This is a big deal for our county,” Aragon said. “Having these specialized resources means we can respond faster, operate more safely, and better serve Valencia County residents during emergencies.”
