Gladys Knight Receives Kennedy Center Honors

Music Icon Performs Thursday, December 15th, 2022, at Kiva Auditorium

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts honored Gladys Knight for her artistic influences on American culture.  Unmatched in her artistry, Gladys Knight is an seven-time Grammy Award®-winner with No. 1 hits in Pop, R&B, and Adult Contemporary, and she has also triumphed in film and television.  She will be in Albuquerque, performing in the Kiva Auditorium, 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 15th, 2022.

Known as the “Empress of soul”, Gladys Knight started off her career young and has pioneered through music. Born in Georgia, Knight started performing gospel music since the age of four in the Mount Mariah Baptist Church and sang as a guest on the Morris Brown college Choir. From there she quickly made her way in music and grew into the extremely successful musician she is today.

In a statement Ms. Knight expressed: “I’m humbled beyond words to be included amongst this prestigious group of individuals, both past and present. You could never have told me as a young girl starting my career that I would be honored on a stage such as this, with artists and humanitarians such as these—it just wouldn’t have seemed possible. It would have been the dream of all dreams. I have been blessed with so much in my life and this certainly stands with those achievements at the top of that list.”

Knight has earned a star on the Hollywood walk of Fame and has been inducted to the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame. Knight is now a 2022 recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors and only continues her success as the “Empress of soul”. Kennedy center Honors is a celebration of artists recognized for their contributions to American Culture through their arts and impact.
