Sunscription to Deliver Energy Bill Savings to New Mexico Residents

Community solar helps renters, low-income families and homeowners reduce electricity costs without rooftop panels

Sunscription, powered by US Solar, is offering community solar subscriptions to income-qualified PNM and El Paso Electric customers in New Mexico with community solar projects energizing this winter, creating a new opportunity for residents to receive savings on their monthly electricity bills without installing solar panels on their homes.

Through the New Mexico Community Solar Program, eligible customers can subscribe to a nearby community solar project. The program is designed to expand access to solar energy for homeowners and renters who may not be able to install rooftop panels, including income-qualified renters and homeowners.

Income-qualified households with electric service from PNM save an average of $270 in the first year of participation, and those households with electric service from El Paso Electric save an average of $148. Savings are subject to eligibility, energy use and program terms. Residents can learn if they qualify here: csnewmexico.com/customers/low-income-customers/.

“We’re excited for these solar projects to go live in New Mexico and be a resource for communities across the Land of Enchantment,” said Erica Forsman, Chief Commercial Officer at US Solar. “Sunscription gives New Mexicans a practical way to participate in and benefit from community solar.”

US Solar, along with New Mexico-based project partner Sol Luna Solar, is developing community solar projects across the state. Sol Luna Solar is a long-standing provider of solar services to residential, commercial, and municipal customers in New Mexico.

“We’re proud to help bring community solar to more New Mexicans,” said Megan Johnson, Sol Luna Owner. “It’s great to be a part of something so beneficial to our communities.”

Under the program, a subscriber’s share of electricity generated by a community solar project results in a monthly bill credit on the customer’s utility account. Sunscription then charges a “subscription fee” that is lower than the value of the bill credit, providing subscribers with valuable electric cost savings.

There is no cost to enroll in Sunscription, and customers do not need to own their homes or install equipment on their property to participate.

Eligible New Mexico residents interested in enrolling in Sunscription can check availability and enroll at Sunscription’s New Mexico program page.
